A Listening Ear, a Helping Hand: Mothers Supporting Mothers
A Listening Ear, a Helping Hand: Mothers Supporting Mothers
Pregnancy should be a time when every mother feels supported. But navigating an unfamiliar maternity system can feel frightening—especially when you are new to the UK, face language barriers or have no family nearby.
At Ubuntu Birth and Bereavement Companions CIC, we bring mothers together so they can find understanding, reassurance and connection.
Our mothers provide peer emotional support, offering a listening ear and a safe space to talk about worries without judgement. Sharing experiences with another mother can help ease fears about appointments, childbirth and asking for help. Sometimes, knowing someone understands makes it easier to take the next step.
Through our birth companionship and community support, we help mothers feel more confident asking questions, expressing their concerns and connecting with maternity professionals. Our support complements the care provided by midwives and other health professionals.
We also provide baby starter packs to mothers facing financial hardship. These packs offer essential baby items, helping families prepare for their newborn and easing some of the pressure of buying what they need.
Together, emotional support and practical help send a simple message: you matter, your worries deserve to be heard, and you do not have to face motherhood alone.
Ubuntu means “I am because we are.” Every listening ear, shared experience and baby starter pack puts that belief into practice.
If you are a mother who needs support, or would like to help through volunteering or donating baby essentials, please get in touch with Ubuntu.
No mother should face pregnancy, childbirth or motherhood alone.
