Supporting Black African Mothers Across Merseyside

Sexual Trauma Awareness event at Liverpool Women’s Hospital

As Director of Ubuntu Birth and Bereavement Companions, I was honoured that Ubuntu was invited to attend a Sexual Trauma Awareness event at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. The session offered valuable insights into the profound impact of sexual trauma on women’s physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing—particularly during pregnancy, childbirth, and bereavement.

Attending this event has strengthened Ubuntu’s commitment and capacity to support survivors

Attending this event has strengthened Ubuntu’s commitment and capacity to support survivors with increased sensitivity, compassion, and understanding. The knowledge gained will directly inform our work, enabling us to further embed trauma-informed practices across our birth companion and bereavement support services. This ensures that every mother we support feels safe, respected, heard, and empowered throughout her journey.

The event also provided an important opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, supporting stronger collaboration, improved referral pathways, and the development of a more holistic and responsive support network for women and families within our community.
