Ubuntu Catering Services

As the Director of Ubuntu Birth and Bereavement Companions CIC, I am delighted to introduce Ubuntu Catering Services — our newest community-led initiative created with love, culture, and purpose at its heart.

We specialise in preparing authentic traditional African meals at a reduced price for individuals, families, parties, and community events across the North West. Our dishes are lovingly prepared by experienced chefs, using beautiful African spices, fresh ingredients, and cherished recipes that bring you the comforting taste of home and a true sense of togetherness.

What makes Ubuntu Catering truly special is that every meal you enjoy helps create positive change within our community.
All proceeds from this project go directly towards providing birth partner kits containing essentials such as nappies, wipes, baby clothes, and other newborn necessities — ensuring that every baby has a healthier, more dignified start in life.

Through Ubuntu Catering, we are also creating training and volunteering opportunities for mothers who wish to learn new skills, gain confidence, and build pathways into employment.

Every plate served tells a story of resilience, hope, and shared humanity — the spirit of Ubuntu, meaning “I am because we are.”

When you choose Ubuntu Catering Services, you’re not just celebrating with great food —
you’re nourishing a movement that uplifts mothers, supports families, and strengthens our community.

Our first catering project was with the Uganda Community Association Liverpool (UCAL) during their celebration of Uganda’s Independence Day. We had the honour of preparing a delicious variety of traditional Ugandan dishes for over 200 guests, and we were overwhelmed by the positive feedback and love shown for the authentic taste of home.

This was a proud moment for the Ubuntu team — bringing our community together through food, culture, and connection. We look forward to taking part in many more events and partnerships in the future, continuing to share the rich flavours of Africa while supporting mothers and families through every meal we serve.

Building Bridges: Ubuntu’s Collaboration with Asylum Link

At Ubuntu Birth and Bereavement Companions CIC, we believe that meaningful partnerships create stronger, more inclusive communities. Recently, I had the privilege of meeting with the dedicated staff at Asylum Link, where we held an inspiring discussion about shared values, collaboration, and supporting those who need it most.

I am delighted to announce that we sealed an important collaboration with Asylum Link. As part of this partnership, Ubuntu will have access to visit their organisation every Thursday, creating a regular space where we can introduce our services, connect with families, and promote Ubuntu’s work.

This opportunity is a huge step forward for Ubuntu. By being present within Asylum Link, we can reach asylum seekers and refugee families who may face unique challenges during pregnancy, birth, and bereavement. It allows us to share vital information, offer emotional support, and extend our compassionate care to communities who often remain underrepresented and underserved.

This collaboration not only strengthens Ubuntu’s mission but also expands our reach, ensuring that families who need us most know they are not alone. Together with Asylum Link, we are building bridges of hope, resilience, and healing.

Mentoring Session

This week, I had the privilege of attending a mentorship session with Sylvia the Director of Women and Digital Inclusion. It was an eye-opening and empowering experience that reminded me of the importance of guidance, collaboration, and shared learning in leadership.
As the Director of Ubuntu Birth and Bereavement Companions CIC, I am always seeking ways to strengthen our impact and ensure that families receive compassionate and inclusive care. The mentorship session gave me practical tools and fresh perspectives on leadership, digital innovation, and community engagement.
Some of the benefits I gained include:
• Strategic Insight: Learning how to use digital platforms to expand our reach and engage with diverse communities.
• Confidence Building: Being encouraged to lead boldly and embrace innovation in service delivery.
• Networking Opportunities: Understanding how collaborations with like-minded organisations can amplify our collective impact.
• Practical Skills: Exploring ways technology can simplify communication, improve record keeping, and increase efficiency.
What struck me most was the spirit of Ubuntu—the belief that “I am because we are.” The mentorship reminded me that leadership is not about walking alone but about learning from others, sharing knowledge, and growing together.
I left the session inspired and equipped to integrate digital inclusion into our work at Ubuntu, ensuring that families we serve can access support in more flexible and innovative ways.
Mentorship is a gift that multiplies. By investing in leaders, we build stronger communities. I am deeply grateful for this experience and look forward to putting the learning into practice.

Directors Meeting

The Ubuntu project recently held a significant director’s meeting with Rose, an expert from the Support and Action Women’s Network (SAWN), to plan an upcoming birth and bereavement workshop. This initiative is designed to provide essential support and resources for individuals facing the profound experiences of birth and loss. The collaboration between Ubuntu and SAWN merges expertise and compassion, with Rose sharing insights on the unique challenges that women and families encounter during these times.

During the meeting, clear objectives for the workshop were established, focusing on creating a safe space for emotional expression, sharing practical resources, and fostering community connections. This collaboration underscores Ubuntu’s commitment to supporting individuals during their most challenging moments, reinforcing the importance of community and shared experiences in the healing process. The anticipated positive impact of the workshop aims to empower participants and strengthen community bonds as they navigate their journeys of birth and bereavement.
